Hate: to dislike intensely or passionately; feel extreme aversion for orextreme hostility toward.

Scarlet Jennings, the preacher’s daughter who lived across the street, was a royal, uptight pain in my ass. When she looked at me, she saw a college quarterback asshole with rocks for brains, but she didn’t have a single word for what was happening between us.

When we were forced to ride together every single day that summer, there was definitely some dislike going on. Extreme hostility was a given, considering that we were spending so much time together in close quarters.

One night of bed-breaking, body-shattering, lose-your-voice-from-screaming passion had surprised us both, but it was only just the beginning…

What I Thought

A story where the very fine lines between love/attraction and hate are blurred. Each fighting an attraction that is so palpable, there is no point, it’s inevitable that something will happen! So why fight it? Well…..because it makes a fun read for us!!

Leo Madsen is a college quarterback, life and soul of the party, surrounded by women, he’s a bit of a lad. Or so it seems to everyone on the outside looking in! Scarlet Jennings is the daughter of a preacher, a good girl, always studying, she is ambitious and is working her way towards a great career. She is trapped in a life of study, but there is that girl inside her dying to be set free, who wants some excitement. Scarlet can only express the exciting life she would like in the form of writing a bucket list.

Leo and Scarlet used to be friends. Living across the road from each other, they used to play together, then they attended the same high school. As puberty hit and Leo started to play sports, along came the females and Leo and Scarlet’s friendship dissolved. Leo now thinks Scarlet is a pretentious, snobby b**ch. Scarlet thinks Leo is an egotystical manw**re. The perceptions they have of each other are stuck, until during Scarlet’s graduation party. At the party their mothers throw them together. Leo no longer has a car, but he still needs to get to summer training, Scarlet has a car and is attending summer classes, their mothers think it would be a great idea for them to car share. This has disaster written all over it! HA HA!

At first, the journeys are awkward. (You know when you are around some people, and at first your thinking of something to say, anything to say, but nothing will come, that is how I imagined their car journeys to be. Strained)  The journey usually ending with them bickering and insulting each other. Eventually, things thaw a little,  in between the bickering they start to chat a little too. Realising they both have similar insecurities and struggles they each let their guards down a little. There is a little confiding in each other. This however, doesn’t last for very long and they are soon back at each others throats. Leo eventually extends an apology to Scarlet by way of going for a beer, which eventually she agrees to. So lots of drinking, lowering inhibitions, no longer able to fight the lingering attraction later………equals a night of hot sex!

The next morning, things are considerably even more awkward, Scarlet even tries to play it off like she doesn’t remember what happened. Leo discovers Scarlets bucket list that was left out and vows to help her work her way through it. Every single thing. Scarlet is mortified, when she thinks of some of the things her list actually contains. So watch out readers……the lines are about to blur even more!

Beguiling was a fun book to read, completely different to Tempting, but Alex pre-warned of that before starting. Tempting was about forbidden romance. It had to be hidden, kept a secret. Was super intense at times. Beguiling was fun. Light. Enchanting. Had me laughing out loud at times. I flew through Beguiling, couldn’t put it down. It was so inconvenient when I actually had to go to work ha ha! I seriously think Alex Lucian is so talented to of been able to write two books in a series that both give you totally different feels but you love them both just the same.

Reading from dual point of view, we got to hear from both Leo and Scarlet, of their attraction to the other, that they were keeping to themselves, feeling they were mixed up, as they also didnt like (or so they thought) the person they were attracted too.

The banter between this pair was flirty (often times without them realising) and fun. I would be reading along as the story steadily progressed,  then realise I have a big goofy grin on my face. That is what the story of Leo and Scarlet did to me. It made me goofy grin. Big!!

This book proves appearances are not all that they seem at first glance, as throughout the book we see different sides to both characters. We also see alot of character development as trust is built, bounderies are pushed, a little selflessness is thrown in to the mix and guards are dropped.

A captivating, sexy, witty story. A great continuation to the Tempting series! I cannot wait to head back to Adele and Nathan’s Story to find out what happens next, but I do hope we have a bit of Leo and Scarlet featuring in there also!
