Dirty English by Ilsa Madden-Mills Review
What I Thought
Well, what I thought is…….I LOVED THIS BOOK!!
The cover enticed me to this book before I even read the synopsis.
Starting with the prologue, we are in a skeevy motel room with Elizabeth Bennett, Confused, hurting and hungover. Hardly able to remember a thing. Hangover turns into mortification upon disovering the uncomfortable feeling between her legs and her “boyfriend” bragging on the phone to his friends that she was up for it. Has she been raped? WAIT!! She was drunk, was it her own fault??
After this, Elizabeth vows never to fall in love again and sets herself up some rules to follow to ensure this never happens again, that she also never falls in love again to!
“Pick an average guy who wasn’t popular or rich or too good-looking.
Make sure he wasn’t taken.
Make sure he didn’t drink or do drugs.
Make sure he wasn’t an escapee from the local insane asylum.
Have sex. Never speak to him again.”
Two years later, Elizabeth is out of her trailer park home, far away from the scene that ruined her, on a full scholarship at university. Upon moving into her very own apartment off campus, Elizabeth has her first encounter with Declan Blay.
Declan is a super gorgeous, English, underground fighter, nursing a broken heart after catching his girl with another guy! He just wants to focus on college and completing the work on his very own gym.
Elizabeth and Declan properly meet later on at a college frat party. They are instantly like magnets, drawn to each other. Straight off Declan knows Elizabeth has been hurt and tries to fight her attraction, he knows he’s not the right guy for her. Not a good guy.
They both try to fight the attraction. They both have their secrets. They both have commitment issues. But can they stay away from each other or is the pull just to strong? Is Elizabeth’s past going to stay in the past? And can she stick to those rules?
This book had it all for me! Action, passion, romance and a hottie!! Once I started reading, I finished it in one sitting. I just didn’t want to put it down. It was one of those books that had my tummy twisting and turning, them butterflies were flying all over with the different going’s on.
We read from the male and female point of view. Even though Ilsa gave us 316 amazing pages, it wasn’t enough for me. I could of just kept reading about Elizabeth and Declan forever.
We were treated to a detailed, chemistry filled, slightly dominant sex scene. In fact the whole storyline was detailed and expressive and helped create the scenes in my head. Helped to vizualize the characters.
Knowing that the story had an American setting, we were constantly reminded about Declan being an Englishman through the use of certain “English lanuage” wording.
I thoroughly enjoyed the secondary characters, Shelley, Elizabeth’s friend, and Dax, Declans equally hot twin brother. I think all that read the book will agree, Dax needs his own book next!
An excellent New Adult read, my first from Ilsa Madden-Mills, but definitely not the last!
