About My Kinda Kisses

Life never goes as planned. Jaime Summer learned that lesson the hard way when her fiancé wreaked havoc on her carefully constructed life plan. Now, Jaime’s back in her hometown, working at her sister’s flower shop and living with her family once again, swearing off dating and men for the rest of her life. That is, until Ryan Elson walks through the door.

Ryan has been in Jupiter Bay for a year now, and has worked hard to make this new town his home. His construction business is growing and while his personal relationships with the fairer sex are lacking, he’s more content than he’s ever been. He doesn’t need a woman, but a chance meeting with Jaime has Ryan ready to pull out all the stops to have her.

Exhilarating. Intoxicating. Consuming. Ravenous. Passionate. What happens when those kisses lead towards something more? Something that looks a lot like forever.

*This book is intended for those 18 and over due to graphic language, descriptive sex, and the world’s most inappropriate grandparents.

What I Thought

A lovely feel good story to read. If the whole series reads the same way, this is a series that will definitely be added to my list of series that I re-read over and over again.

My Kinda Kisses is the first book in the new Summer Sisters series. It focuses on the second oldest of the six Summer sisters, Jaime. The sisters are all extremely close and arrange a monthly gathering, taking it in turns to pick where at, to catch up and basically get drunk. Jaime couldn’t be more thankful for all of her sisters than right now though. Having just moved back to Jupiter Bay after her selfish EX-fiance dumped her by text a week before the wedding, Jaime needs her sisters to lean on and bring her back from the brink. So right now she is back at the home where she grew up, living with her dad and grandparents and working in her sisters flower shop until she can afford her own place. One thing about moving back home, Jaime vows to herself to never let herself fall for a guy ever again, thinking she will only be hurt over and over.

So of course, enter hottie carpenter Ryan Elson who has not long moved to the bay, is single and fancies the pants off of Jaime as soon as he lays eyes on her. Ryan originally ended up in Jupiter Bay after following his ex-girlfriend there to live. Even after splitting with her, Ryan loved Jupiter Bay and set up his business and settled in for the long haul. Upon entering the flower shop for some flowers for his elderly neighbour and landlady, Ryan spots Jaime and straight away he wants to get to know this striking female on a deeper level. To start though he can’t help messing with her a little about who the flowers are for, and is deliriously happy to see a reaction from Jaime. Ryan soon learns though that Jaime has been burnt in the past and realises he needs to take things slowly and patiently with her so as not to scare her away.

Jaime is instantly attracted to Ryan. Her body wants to be all up on that but her still fragile heart makes her hold back. Early on she can tell that Ryan would be able to break her and she just doesn’t think she could go through that again. Ryan doesn’t give up easily and slowly breaks down some of her barriers. When he admits he wants more with Jaime, as in boyfriend/girlfriend status, she pulls away slightly. Eventually agreeing to a fun casual relationship, Ryan agrees but has other ideas in mind to make her his, but will he succeed in gaining her trust or is Jaime just never destined to trust in love ever again?

I thought this was such a sweet story and a great beginning to the Summer Sisters series. Jaime and Ryan were such great characters to introduce the series with. We read from both characters perspectives. From Ryan’s point of view that he isn’t the typical cocky, sexy, self-assured tradesman who knows he can get all of the women. He is actually quite sensitive, he is patient and constantly assuring Jaime of his feelings for her and how sexy he thinks she is. He is just such a nice guy, but yes…..still super sexy. Jaime has lost her faith in love. From her dream in life being to marry, have children, a house and a cat, to not even entertaining thought of even casually dating again. Until Ryan. This couple are just straight off in to each other and comfortable around each other. So we have a fast paced story with following the relationship of these guys, but it doesn’t come across as cheesy or rushed. The storyline flows smoothly.

The writing is creative and detailed, even down to the many times this couple can’t keep their hands off each other. The sex scenes come across as tasteful, romantic and realistic, as does the whole story really and it pulls you in. It’s just a fun and happy story that makes you smile really big! I was raving about this book to my little sister when I was only half way through!

Jaime’ five sisters feature heavily throughout the story, you can tell they each have their own story and I cannot wait to read them. I just hope everyone features as heavily as they appear to do in book #1 (Just so I can have some more Jaime and Ryan). Coming across as an amazingly close family, it would be a shame to see that fade in the other books.

And as I am guessing is the same for everyone that reads My Kinda Kisses, we need more Orval and Emma AKA Grandma and Grandpa. These guys were hilarious. So outspoken about their sexual acrobatics. They helped make this story so great being a feature of it. The storyline that the grandparents play shows some very brilliant creative writing and an excellent mind.

“I’ll add them to my prayers this evening,” Grandma says.
“You don’t say prayers, dear,” Grandpa replies from her side.
“Sure I do. I believe I talk to God almost every night,” she sasses with a wicked grin.
“Shouting his name over and over doesn’t constitute prayers, my love.” Grandpa leans over and places a tender kiss on her knuckles.

God just remembering the placement of the above quote in the story has me giggling!
So to round up My Kinda Kisses, a fun, flirty, humorous and happy read. I loved it.
