When handsome California surf god Lincoln Savage suddenly rolls into Ocean Beach like a rogue wave, shy beauty Simone Bianchi’s foundation is shaken. No longer under the thumb of her domineering father, she’s made a simple quiet life for herself and her fluffy fourteen pound Havanese pup running a surf shop in her hometown of OB. Long ago she gave up her dreams for a future with Linc.
But now the notorious lead singer of the Dirt Dogs has returned, and Simone is reluctant to admit that she’s still vulnerable to his killer dimpled smile and easy charm. She finds that although she’s stowed away the mementos, it hasn’t been as easy to erase the memories of their epic summer love.
It seems he hasn’t forgotten, either.
Is the recording contract he’s offering merely a pretense?
Or does he have something more in mind?
Does he really believe that they can just pick up where they left off, despite all the bad luck and heartache?
And is she willing to risk everything again for one last chance at love?

                                                           What I Thought

Well where to start! I LOVED this story. What I disliked about it…….That it came to an end! I could of read on and on and on about Simone and Lincoln, AKA Mona and Linc.

Before we start, the story spans over fifteen years, so we do move between the present and the past.

Simone Bianchi had a strict upbringing in Ocean Beach. Her dad was strict and had a temper and the smallest thing set him off. Mona constantly walked on egg shells. Her mum, being a heavy drinker, wasn’t there for her. She just had to take what was thrown at her. Mona spent a lot of time working at the family restaurant, but any spare time she had, was spent at her favourite place, the beach. It was at the beach, where Mona met her first love, Lincoln.

Linc is a hot, smooth talking surfer who sometimes sings in his cousins rock band, The Dirt Dogs.  (The perfect package 😉  ) Linc also had a difficult upbringing, being beaten by his father, the beatings ultimately lead to him living with his (adopted) Aunt, Uncle and Cousin Ash.

Linc and Mona both pretty much live at the beach so it is inevitable that it is there where they first set eyes on each other.

It’s pretty much love at first sight for them both. They have many obstacles against them, a huge one being Mona’s dad. After Mona’s mum had an affair with a surfer before she was born, her dad can no longer stand surfers. He despises them. Doesn’t bode well for Linc does it? Mona’s dad tries everything to keep the pair apart, but they find ways to be together, by Sneaking around and with help from their friends.

Circumstances change though and Linc gets offered an opportunity to go on the road with the band. He see’s this as a chance to make some cash and start a career so he can support Mona. Things already being slightly strained before they leave, it only seems to be heightened whilst travelling. Especially after people start recognising the band and they develop fans.

A phone call from her mum means Mona needs to make a decision, but is it the right decision and what will it cost her?

Span ahead fifteen years ad Linc and the and are back in Ocean Beach playing one final concert together. Is this the only reason he is back though?

Just one more time…….I loved this story. I have purposely kept my recap brief. I’m usually more detailed with it but I think that this is one that you just have to pick up and read!

This is a perfect second chance romance book. You get the whole story from early on, from the first time around, not just a brief overview and the story being based in the present. The writing style is romantic and descriptive. It really made me smile in many places.

“I don’t feel sorry for you.” His clear Blue eyes glistened like the surface of the water all around us. “The fact is, I’m damn proud of you.” His voice thickened. “Beautiful and brave. I’m falling for you hard. You know that. Right?”

I nodded, though I wondered who was falling harder.

It was also complex and emotional, both in the happy and in the sad and in turmoil ways. A bit of an emotional rollercoaster. Being from the male and female view only heightened the story more, helping to envision the characters and their thoughts and feelings. The character development was superb. Moving along fluently from a younger Linc and Mona to them fifteen years later. Describing everything they went through and felt, helped to see them mature and learn before you on the very pages as you read.

It made a change to read sex scenes that didnt inlvolve assertiveness, dirty talk and a dominator. These all make great sex scenes in the right book, but the fact that Michelle wrote tender, loving sex scenes, loaded with compliments and love was a refreshing change and gave my tummy butterflies whilst reading.

I’m really hoping Michelle is intending to write books on the secondary characters, I can see them being just as great! This could turn into a brilliant book series.

Thank you Michelle Mankin for having such a great imagination, writing this book and sharing it with us 🙂
