HE SEES HER IN A WAY SHE
COULD NEVER SEE HERSELF.
SHE HAS NEVER FELT MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN WHEN SHE WAS IN HIS ARMS.
Tempting Tempo (Standalone) by Michelle Mankin!
Sager Reed, the strong and silent bassist of the rock band Tempest, is well acquainted with loss. The thoughtful artist’s own tattoos only hint at his turbulent youth. He buries his guilt about it deeply within his troubled heart.
Melinda T. Belle, the daughter of a dysfunctional rock legend, as a rule avoids emotional entanglement. In fact, she has turned her back on nearly everyone and everything she has ever known. Now she is alone, trying desperately to find fulfillment in the one dream she has left, competitive skiing.
CAN SAGER OVERCOME HIS DARK PAST AND FINALLY BELIEVE THAT HE IS WORTHY OF HER LOVE?
WILL MELINDA REALIZE TOO LATE THAT HE IS THE ONE THAT REALLY MATTERS?
“Let it go, Bluebelle,” I chastised myself aloud as I passed the tower with the unloading sign. Lifting the bar, I slid forward at the designated area, pointed the tips of my skis upward and leaned slightly forward as soon as my skis were completely on the ground. I stood, balanced and glided away with the chair providing the push. I was alone once I reached the turn to the snow cross course. I paused to take in a few mouthfuls of crisp clear high altitude air as I stared out at the amazing view. Top of the mountain. My favorite place to put things into perspective. The world spread out before me, an endless stretch of blue sky and grey mountains. The clouds below looked like a river of puffy cotton balls between snowcapped peaks. The early morning rays transformed last night’s snow into a carpet of glistening crystal.
Don’t think about Sager. Don’t think about the past, and whatever you do don’t you dare feel sorry for yourself. You got by on your own before April, before Tempest, before…him. You can do it again. It’s better this way. Safer. A heart can only take so much battering around before it runs out of reasons to keep beating.
What I Thought
What I thought, is that Tempting Tempo was seriously stomach churning, heart in your throat stuff, in a good way. This story definitely keeps you on your toes. Will the characters make it together as a couple in the limelight? Will all the obstacles thrown their way break one or both of them? Or do we have some seriously strong characters in Tempting Tempo that can beat the odds?
Sager Reed had a seriously tough up bringing. So today to be the bassist in a band that is getting bigger by the day is completely unreal to him. Being a part of rock band Tempest is life changing for Sager and his band brothers, who are also like his family, as most of his biological family are in prison. With most of his band brothers now partnering off and settling down, with the exception of King/Juaquin, Sager himself is no longer finding the groupies and partying alluring. Not after that one night with his pixie.
Sayers pixie is Melinda Belle. AKA Blue, AKA Bluebelle. Yep this makes sense once you read the book. Melinda is trying to make it on her own, after being cut off by her dad for not following his wishes for how her life should pan out. Him wanting her to stay in education, work in music, but her desire was to ski. So once Melinda joined a freestyle ski team, she had to fend for herself financially. Being the new girl on the team wasn’t easy and for money Melinda was also modelling on the side. Melinda was under immense pressure to be at the lowest weight possible for extra speed for her skiing and to also have the perfect figure for modelling.
Sager and Melinda want each other. She thinks she has broken any chance with him after betraying the band (book #4, Relentless Rhythm), but Sager understands people make mistakes and just wants this woman as his. He fights for Melinda’s affections, She wants to believe he wants her, but finding it hard to trust, she is skeptical. Sager can tell that Melinda struggles to believe he has feelings for her but is willing to do what it takes to prove it to her and make her believe he wants a forever with her.
After both going through so much turmoil, is them being together forever too good to be true or is everything going to come crashing down right on top of them?
So SIGH……Sager. I did enjoy Sage;-) Willing to stand up to his band brothers for his woman. Never giving up the fight for her. Willing and wanting to do anything and everything to make her happy. Wanting to reassure his woman constantly, knowing that she was insecure. In his eyes there was no other woman in the world apart from Melinda, no groupie would be tempting him. Sager was quite sensitive and you can’t help but fall for the guy!
I did have a few moments when I wanted to shake Melinda and get her to open her eyes to see what she could have, what was on offer right in front of her. But in Tempting Tempo, Melinda went through quite a lot of self discovery. She had to learn to trust and realise that she could lean on someone.
So I have to be honest, this isn’t my first Michelle Mankin book to read, but it is my first from the Tempest series. Now I just want to read the previous books as I am so intrigued about the other characters and their stories, as the secondary characters, the other band members and their ladies, feature a lot in this book. I definitely want to read book #6, King’s story. He peed me off a little in Tempting Tempo, not really seeming to be supportive to his best friend and brother from another mother, Sager, so I want to see him brought to his knees by a woman in the next book.
The foundation of Tempting Tempo is great. We read from the male and female point of view. It is evenly paced to reflect the story. The characters and settings are easily imagined in your head with the descriptive writing and expressive thought processes of the characters. I would of maybe liked a little more of the rock star world thrown in there, but this is just my personal opinion and love of rock star romance books. It doesn’t mean the book is lacking any. I’m just a rock star romance junkie! There is so much in Tempting Tempo to keep you glued to it right until the end.
A huge well done and well written, to Michelle for incorporating and highlighting some sensitive story lines in this book. Research has clearly been done. The scenes are written delicately, whilst still being intense, so not to offend, but they definitely get you thinking. I don’t want to mention the story line I’m talking about and give away a huge spoiler of what happens, but it is a huge part of the story.
Tempting Tempo is a great novel. It is well written, jam packed full of goings on and emotions and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it!
